Rapidly broadening the roles and responsibilities of capital market participants.
Global initiatives such as the COP 21 Paris Agreement and UN Sustainable Development Goals lay a strong emphasis on the need of private finance to support broader environmental and societal goals.
At NatWest Markets we’re actively supporting our clients in this transition. We work with issuers and investors to develop holistic sustainability strategies, encompassing:
- Funding and investment agenda
- Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) ratings and policies
- Regulatory and institutional developments
- Stakeholder engagement
With a strong track record in landmark ESG transactions, we’ve placed green, social and sustainability labelled debt for a wide range of sectors and in various debt formats. Examples of ESG-labelled debt transactions we’ve led since January 2018 include:
- Bonds: Vodafone, IFC, Unibail-Rodamco, SSE, Yorkshire Water, Société du Grand Paris, Schiphol Airport
- Private placements: Anglian Water, National Grid, TenneT, Thames Water
- Hybrid: Engie, EDP
Our experience in establishing and marketing green finance issuance across all major bond markets, for corporates and financial institutions means we’re ideally placed to support our clients in thinking, acting and investing more sustainably.
NatWest Markets ESG Product Framework
This is why we’ve developed the NatWest Markets ESG Product Framework. The Framework allows investing clients to place deposits with us, where we commit to use the proceeds to invest in organisations with a high ESG rating.
We also actively research and share key ESG market trends having introduced the “Green halo effect” and “green treasury strategy” concepts to the market.
